Elevating Head-to-Toe Basics
This Spring I'm loving anything embellished, be it shoes, bags, jeans... you get the idea. In this day and age we could all use a little something #extra, and if that means a ruffled sleeve, a pearl-encrusted jacket or a bejeweled-jean hem, then so be it. I will wear them all dutifully. The bigger the ruffle or bow, the better. (All of a sudden, I'm finding myself feeling a tad guilty for how judgemental I've been of all my mom's puffed-sleeve 80s outfits. She clearly knew something I didn't.) Putting on a top with a little extra detail can be an instant mood-booster and go a long way in making your outfit feel that much more special. However, it doesn't mean having to totally step outside your comfort zone. The stagger hem on these jeans, or the ruffle detail on this top- they're both still basics, but just a little step up.
An all-black outfit is my go-to for a night out when I don't know what to wear. Black skinny jeans are a staple because I can pair them back to anything. I love the staggered hem on this pair not only because I feel like Steven Tyler when I wear them but also because they are oh-so-comfotable. I also love this similar pair that's under $70. I always find myself reaching for a basic black blouse and I love the ruffle detail on this one from Club Monaco (on sale!). But the best way to elevate head-to-toe basics: embellished shoes. Anything that glitters or shines (no kira kira app required) instantly takes basics to another crystal-studded level. I also think it's impossible to have a bad day when you are wearing glitter shoes. Impossible. Just a friendly FYI from me to you.
What do you like when it comes to embellishment? Would you stick to elevated basics or go all out in rainbow shoes? I'd love to hear in the comments below!
